Graham Davey

Furniture, Wood

Graham sculpts open and closed hollow forms in wood; Graham reflects, it’s a collaboration between maker and material. The maker shapes the piece and hollows it, leaving a thin wall; the material then starts to work, altering the shape as moisture is released. Tensions in the wood slowly relax, pushing and pulling the piece into a combined expression of maker and material.

Graham works with English hardwoods, typically oak, ash, elm and sycamore at his studio to the west of St Ives in Cornwall.
