Ron Jones's Bio

I was born in Bodmin, Cornwall but grew up in Wiltshire. There was never any doubt what I wanted to do. Workshops, tools and wood always held a fascination for me. At sixteen I was apprenticed to a cabinetmakers shop in Corsham for 5 years.

Design was the priority, Post modernist in style, the craft element was a means to an end, a way of turning ideas into reality. Both partners of the workshop also taught at the Royal College of Art. My first workshop was in Bath for 17 years, designing and making furniture.

In 1989 I set up my workshop in Cornwall in the Sunday school of Trenoweth Chapel, which we have converted into our home. Creating solutions for clients is what intrigues me incorporating contemporary design with traditional craft skills.

My furniture is made from carefully selected European hardwoods. I work to commission my role not only as a maker, but also a designer.
