Cloth and stitch are a natural way for me to express my personality. Shibori and indigo are contemporary techniques of our time, but I always want to delve further and discover through traditional and cultural references, a wider vocabulary to use in my work.
During 2006 I have been working with natural dye colours that look richer than paint, on small, framed windows of twilight, strongly influences by the coastline between Fowey and the Gribbin Head. Suspended as landscapes, capturing the intensity and softness of light when the land and sea merge with texture and fleeting extraordinary colours. Shibori techniques (Japanese shaped resist dyeing) adapted from a residency on Shikoku island Japan 2005.
