I am an artist who uses kiln fired vitreous enamel. I am based in Falmouth, Cornwall, with a studio in Penryn.
After a long career as an Art and Design educator, I returned to my own creative practice, refining my technical skills with an MA in Craft and Design from Brighton University.
Grounded in craft traditions but defined by contemporary methods, my intuitive approach explores space and place within the landscape. I use a visual framework of grids, maps, and geometric notation to blend statistical information with emotional responses.
My work often carries an implicit narrative addressing issues of land access and the right to roam, communicating these themes through the physical scale, arrangement, and specific marks within each piece.
Working with copper and steel panels and bowls, I hand paint, spray and sieve opaque and transparent enamels. I incise, rub, sgraffito, and brush the initial layers to echo the landscape, then use a wet stone polisher after each kiln firing to reveal buried marks. Through a continuous rhythm of addition and subtraction, I aim to create a quiet dialogue with the landscape.
