The automata are designed to sit proudly on a mantelpiece or be held in the hands and played with – they only really come to life when the handle is turned!
The work is made in copper, brass, nickel and silver to which I add highlights of enamel, brightly coloured recycled tin or leaf metal. Colour is also applied directly to the metal through a process of patination which involves applying layers of copper nitrate and burning reds and browns into the copper. Each piece sits on a base of either reclaimed hardwood or found driftwood.
I am always happy to discuss bespoke ideas to suit your own needs.
