Hazel Oliver of Badger & Birch

Other Media

Hazel has spent the last 5 years developing and honing her use of eco resin, a VOC free
polymer plaster. With an MA in Children’s Illustration from Cambridge College of Art, Hazel
initially discovered a love of texture through illustrative printmaking techniques. Hazel’s early
work digitally mixed monotype and lino printed imagery. As Hazel’s work moved to printing
textured imagery onto marble, ceramic and concrete surfaces it was then Hazel progressed her
passion for working with surface texture and 3D form. Her work progressed to casting concrete
and in the search for a material to use with a lessened environmental impact, then to plaster
polymers and eco-resins. She ran her lifestyle brand ‘Badger & Birch’ creating eco-resin and
recycled shell homeware but more recently has returned to creating mixed media vessels and
limited edition pieces exploring recycled materials and traditional craft methodologies.
Prior to working exclusively as an artist, Hazel worked as a qualified teacher, training and
development officer and Head of Department in the Faculty of Health, Education and Social Care
at Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford and Cambridge.
