Growing up in what today is called a ‘hardworking’ family there was absolutely no space for the fancy notion of art or being an artist. Alongside this there was an unexpected Grammar School entry that isolated me from my social and family background. A school that only valued academia as worthy. Adrift I sought solace in the natural world, it became my go to for nurture. I dug local clay, fired pots in fires, I sat in trees, spent time alone.
Not until adulthood did I dare to conceive my ‘play’ and ‘fun’ was my unique artistic intelligence and it was serious. I have come to appreciate that the more fun I have ‘playing’ with materials the more I feel congruent to my craft and art. I enjoy creating beautiful objects.
I draw inspiration from the healing natural world and my deep spiritual connection to our ancestors but especially the land and seascape of beloved beautiful Cornwall. I hope you enjoy my work, I had a lot of ‘fun’ making it.
