I produce a variety of multimedia art work, using a lifelong interest in textiles to explore the possibilities of repurposing natural fabrics.
Thinking ‘outside the box’, reflects my pragmatic approach to my art practice, producing unique pieces of abstract work. Taking forgotten household linen and making it into new art work by stretching, dipping, painting, cutting, ripping, folding and stitching. I use years of experience in the use of sewing machines and hand stitching to create my individual style.
Inspiration comes from a nomadic married life, living on Scottish Islands, volunteering in South Asia and travel, exposing and developing my love of all the vibrant variations of cultural life. Returning to Cornwall has reawakened the inspirational gifts Cornwall has to offer. My work tells my story and is both earth based and as environmentally sustainable as possible, using natural fibres and earth pigments with a soya medium.
My work is held in private homes and my style is exploratory and unconventional, the finished piece of work invites the viewer to ask ‘does this relate to my story?’ I believe that encouraging diversity will expand other artists to expand their repertoire and gain confidence to explore their own practice.
